A Year of Savings - 10% or more?

Last year, I bought a cooling pad for my laptop.  It lasted about two months and I decided I could just skip it.  I'd noticed though that my computer often got very hot and the fan came on and stayed on a lot.  This past week I realized it was burning hot to the touch, and that's when it hit me.  A new cooling pad costs about 10% of what a brand new computer costs.  Maybe the wiser investment was to buy the cooling pad.  I did just that yesterday.  The new cooling was more expensive than the last one but it's design makes far more sense to me than the old one did, as well.  I feel the investment of $40 beats a new computer for $400 or more.

My husband bought a laptop and we are using a cookie cooling rack with the legs folded under.
This seems to be working as we can hear the fan turn on a run for a few seconds and then turn off. When looking at the cooling pads I couldn't help but think they looked like an over-sized trivet.
